This is a historical-descriptive study of the work of Faria de Vasconcelos, within the scope of the History of Education, using documentary sources. We use a hermeneutic methodology to analyze his thought and contributions, under the influence of the New Education movement. We structured the text around 3 key points, constituting the study objectives: To understand the principles of the New School in Vasconcelos's thought; To analyze contributions made to vocational guidance in the pedotechnical/psychotechnical dimension; To understand his legacy for the History of Education. We recognize the projection of this pedagogue, imbued with the pedagogy of the time, concerned with didactic teacher training, the psych pedagogical aspect of teaching and learning, school pedagogy, vocational school guidance, and he proposed solutions to the school problems of students, including those with disabilities, embodied in the collaboration "Proposal for Reform of the Educational System" - João Camoesas (1923).
